Rip It Up magazine
In the 80s, when I started collecting music, there was a free music magazine in New Zealand called Rip It Up. It highlighted many emerging NZ artists, possibly making them more accessible, and more widely known, than they otherwise might have been. It also had news from around the world, which was important in a pre-internet world.
From memory, when I collected/read the magazine, it was presented in a newspaper format, but I can't be sure. It was available from local music shops, usually in a stack near the door or the counter.
The magazine started in the late 70s and continued, in various guises, well into the 2000s. By chance I googled the magazine recently and discovered that the early issues, from 1977 to 1985, have been digitised and are available in pdf format for free online. Check it out here, for a blast from the past!
